Andrew Miller, MP for Ellesmere Port and Neston, attended a recent programme of events in Westminster intended to showcase the contribution that high value manufacturing can make to the UK’s growth. Put on by the University of Sheffield, Boeing and Rolls-Royce the events included an exhibition on high value manufacturing, a tour of the University of Sheffield’s mobile advanced manufacturing transporter (Mantra) and a seminar in the House of Commons.

Andrew Miller said:
“I get fed up with people telling me that manufacturing is dead in the UK. Throughout our country we have many examples like the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) that demonstrate our expertise and show where the jobs of tomorrow will come from with the right support from Government.”
Ends 3rd November 2011
Photo shows Andrew Miller with a Rolls-Royce fan-set, that draws air into the engine and produces 80% of the engine’s thrust, which stood in front of the Houses of Parliament as a visible reminder of the importance of UK manufacturing with the fan blades made in Lancashire, assembled in Derby and sold on Rolls-Royce engines globally. The fan-set is from a Trent 900 engine, which powers the Airbus A380. It is the largest Rolls-Royce fan blade in service at 116 inch diameter. The application of this technology can be seen on revolutionary new aircraft such as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which made its first commercial flight powered by Rolls-Royce engines, during the exhibition period.
